Man's alleged sick acts to school kids prompts arrest

A man accused of repeatedly exposing himself to school children has been charged with dozens of offences.

NSW Police say officers were patrolling the Merewether and Cooks Hill area in Newcastle on Friday after receiving multiple reports of the alleged act.

Officers followed a vehicle to Robey Street and arrested the driver, a 65-year-old man.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with 45 offences, including 21 counts of intentionally doing a sexual act towards a child aged 10 to 16 years.

He was also charged with stalking offences and sexually touching a child.

A number of items were seized for further examination from both the vehicle and a home in the Newcastle area.

The man was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
