Glen Cahill: Perth father in stable condition after alleged one-punch attack outside Hillarys Beach Club

A Perth father who was knocked unconscious in an alleged one-punch attack on Melbourne Cup day is making a recovery. Glen Cahill, 43, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in the back of an ambulance after he was allegedly set upon outside Hillarys Beach Club on Tuesday afternoon. Mr Cahill and his wife Tarryn were waiting for a rideshare vehicle after celebrating the race day before his accused attacker, Matthew Anthony Jennings, approached the pair about 4pm on Tuesday. “During the altercation, the accused allegedly punched the victim to the face causing him to lose consciousness and fall backwards, striking his head on the road,” police said. The father of two young girls, aged four and six, suffered serious facial and head injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit at RPH. After remaining in a critical condition for days after the attack, an RPH spokesperson confirmed his condition had improved on Friday morning. The family of Mr Cahill described him as a loving father and husband earlier this week. “Glen is a devoted dad to two girls aged four and six and a loving husband to Tarryn,” his family said in a statement. “He has an army of family and friends surrounding him with love and support at this tough time.” Mr Jennings, 41, faced Joondalup Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with grievous bodily harm, where he was remanded in custody. He is due to face court again on November 22, where it is expected he will apply for bail. The Hillarys venue was hosting a ticketed race day event on Tuesday.
