COVID in WA: Cases slightly up on previous week, latest figures show

COVID-19 infections in WA have gone up slightly in the past week, reversing a two month downward trend, while the numbers of those hospitalised has continued to fall.

WA Health reported 2,278 new cases, compared with 2,086 last week. There were 1,338 active cases on Thursday compared with 1,282 the previous week.

There were 74 people in hospital with the virus, 21 fewer than last week. Two people were in ICU, the same as the previous week.

Officials reported two deaths. The people who died were aged from 78 to 80 years.

There have been 934 COVID-19 related deaths in WA so far this year. Unvaccinated West Australians (3.5 per cent) comprise 17.9 per cent of fatalities.

Nationally, the moving seven-day average case rates increased in all jurisdictions except New South Wales, which remained steady, and the Northern Territory, which decreased.
