Shire of Dardanup supports Bunbury & Districts Softball Association’s $30,000 CSRFF grant funding application

The Bunbury and Districts Softball Association’s $30,000 bid for facility upgrades in Eaton has been backed by the Shire of Dardanup. The council has supported the association’s application to the State Government as part of its Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund. The club plans to use the money to cover half the cost of a protective structure between its two diamond fields at Glen Huon Reserve. It is hoped the structure will help reduce the risk of injury from foul balls during play; provide more shade; and encourage greater participation. Shire president Tyrrell Gardiner said the association had been proactive. “They’ve seen the need, they’ve designed it up, and the CSRFF funding is one-half funding so from a whole-of-council perspective, it’s not costing us anything,” he said. “They’ve been very proactive and hopefully they’ll get the money and get their shelter.” It is not the first time the club has requested support for upgrades after a successful $466,000 bid saw new lights switched on in November following support from State and Federal Government funding programs.
