World Cup tilt in Spain for Connor

An Albany student is jetting to Spain this weekend to represent Australia at the World Cup for paraplegic soccer.

Bethel Christian School’s Connor Moseley, 15, will take to the field with Australia’s national paraplegic soccer team, the Pararoos. He is one of three players in the team from WA.

The passionate soccer player has been training hard for next month’s International Federation of Cerebral Palsy Football World Cup in Seville.

Connor was diagnosed with mild right-sided hemiplegia when he was two.

He said playing soccer had helped him overcome challenges.

“I can’t use my right side as well as my left, I can’t pick up things and use my legs as well as my left side. At first I found running hard when I was younger but playing a lot of soccer I’ve learnt to overcome it, it has helped a lot and strengthened my muscles.”

The midfielder said he was excited to be travelling to Spain for the competition.

Connor’s biggest fan is his dad Justin Moseley. “Watching him grow, from starting soccer and finding it frustrating falling over — to now being very skilled through guts and determined — we are so proud of him,” he said.

Connor was a junior finalist in the 2018 Albany Sportsperson of the Year award and was Young Player of the Tournament at last year’s national championships, which led to him being named in the extended Pararoos squad.
