Works to shut highway as Albany Ring Road interchange takes shape
A stretch of Albany Highway will be closed to traffic for a week later this month to allow for the assembly of a new concrete bridge interchange central to the Albany Ring Road.
The new bridge at the intersection of Menang Drive and Albany Highway will allow traffic to pass over Albany Highway, with access between the two roads retained with connecting ramps.
Albany Highway is scheduled to be closed between Lancaster Road in McKail and Menang Drive in Willyung from October 25-31 to make way for the works.
The closure will allow four 150-tonne concrete beams to be installed across the highway to form the span of the bridge and support the bridge deck, according to Main Roads WA.
Mechanically stabilised earth walls on either side of the highway are already in place ready for the installation of the reinforced concrete beams, which is expected to take about a week.
Local access for residents and businesses will be permitted between Lancaster Road and Menang Drive.
A signed detour will be in place for northbound and southbound traffic via Menang Drive.
Main Roads WA said the works would be subject to weather conditions.
