Works created during Breaksea’s Seachange arts project to be publicly displayed on Saturday

The Albany Entertainment Centre will host a showcase of the Great Southern’s creative talent this weekend with a free display of the works created during Breaksea’s Seachange program.

Non-profit arts organisation Breaksea has run a series of creative arts projects from June through Seachange.

Local artists, performers and musicians held a program of workshops, allowing participants to learn from creatives including experienced performer and vocalist Rachael Colmer, multimedia artist James Gentle and dancer Jessica Ruggera.

Workshops have introduced budding writers to intergenerational story writing under the guidance of local authors Sarah Drummond and Naomi Lake.

Albany Town Hall was transformed into a shadow puppetry studio with a workshop held by artist Sue Codee and puppeteer Jane Davies earlier this month.

Seachange has also featured specialised workshops for Albany Regional Prison, Albany Secondary Education Support Centre and ALOTCO’s Let’s Shine group.

Local bands Flood the Moon and The Manic have also been commissioned to write new singles taking inspiration from the theme of Seachange.

The program will culminate with the Seachange Public Showcase from 2pm on Saturday at the AEC, where the works created during the project will be displayed to the public.

The showcase will feature a multi-arts presentation by participants of the performance workshops, led by Colmer, Gentle and Ruggera.

Members of the Albany community will present a heartfelt live reading of their stories of family written during Drummond and Lake’s workshops.

The Let’s Shine group will perform a new dance presentation choreographed in partnership with Ruggera and Beaksea youth artist Emily O’Brien, with a soundtrack provided by Flood the Moon.
