Work to be celebrated and raffled at Denmark Crafty Quilters’ triennial exhibition

The Denmark Crafty Quilters’ triennial exhibition is on again next week, but this time it’s personal, with a quilt set to be raffled for the Denmark Surf Life Saving Club.

Running from September 24-27, the three-yearly exhibition features an array of quilts and is a celebration of the quilting club’s work.

Held at the Shire of Denmark offices, this year’s exhibition will be close to home for the quilters.

A quilt titled Where The Ocean Meets The Waves will be raffled to help raise funds for the Denmark SLSC, where the quilters meet every Thursday morning at 10am.

Bev Seeney joined the quilting club in its inaugural year, 1993.

She said the group was pleased to give back to a local organisation that had done so much for the community.

“The Denmark Surf Life Saving Club do so much for the community,” she said.

“They’ve been in existence for a very long time and they’re very supportive of the local community.

“They’ve rescued an awful lot of people out there and they’ve been involved in rescues with marine rescues that we don’t necessarily all hear about.”

Other raffles will also be held over the four days, with all money raised going to local charity groups.

The exhibition will also be special for Ms Seeney.

While she has worked on many quilts over the years, there is one she began 28 years ago but didn’t quite finish — until now.

“It’s the first quilt that I did when I first joined the quilting club ... so it’s been in progress the whole time the quilting club’s been up and running,” she said.

“When I laid the quilt out on the table after all that time, everyone was so helpful in giving me suggestions and encouraging me all the way. I think it’s just wonderful, it’s a great achievement that I’ve actually finished it.

“It’s very supportive, very welcoming club, and people want to come along and be a part of that.”
