Woman hit with burglary charges as police swarm Yakamia street, finding alleged offender hiding in a bin

An Albany woman who was allegedly caught red-handed after she broke into the home of an elderly couple was later caught by police after she was found hiding in a bin. Police were called to a property on Grandis Way in Yakamia about 8.25am on Monday after an elderly couple reported an offender inside their home. The occupants left their home to call the police, who arrived quickly, but the offender had left on foot with dozens of officers seen frantically searching nearby bushland and streets. The woman was arrested after she was found hiding inside a bin at a nearby home on Grandis Way. Albany police took the alleged offender into custody and charged her with several offences. The 26-year-old Yakamia woman was charged with aggravated burglary with intent, stealing and two counts of trespassing. She made a brief court appearance on Monday and was remanded in custody before her next appearance in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday. Acting Senior Sergeant Brendon Blades said police attended the scene quickly and located the person of interest. “A gentleman has returned to his home and was disturbed by an unknown female person inside his house,” Sen. Sgt Blades said. “The elderly occupants have gone outside and contacted police, we have attended and officers completed a search of the house and nearby area but the alleged offender has fled prior to us getting there. “Shortly after, we have located the female hiding inside a bin at a different property on the same street. “There appears to be no sign of forced entry and it’s a reminder that even if you are at home make sure your doors are locked and your place is secure. “They’ve contacted us straight away, we got there promptly and the occupants did the right thing not to confront her.”
