Wolfe aims for big feature races with young duo

Exciting talent Lordhelpmerun is tracking well for next Saturday’s $500,000 Karrakatta Plate (1200m), according to Albany trainer Steve Wolfe.

Lordhelpmerun burst into Karrakatta Plate calculations when sprinting to an impressive victory in the Magic Millions Plate (1200m) at Ascot last month at just his second career start.

The gelding by Playing God was eighth on the turn before producing a powerful turn of foot to charge clear and defeat Magic Planet by 1¼ lengths.

On debut over 1100m, Lordhelpmerun finished ahead of Magic Planet and Wolfe said his star youngster was building nicely towards the Group 2 feature on Saturday week.

“He’ll go in without another run and has been working really strongly,” Wolfe said.

“Hopefully he can get there in one piece but his win was really strong and is certainly deserving of his place in the race.”

Lordhelpmerun is among 44 current entries for the two-year-olds’ feature race but is certain to gain a start in the final field after his brilliant debut victory.

Arrum Boy, a last-start Saturday winner at Ascot, finished 10th in last year’s Karrakatta Plate.

Wolfe will start smart youngster Three Secrets in Saturday’s Listed $100,000 Raconteur Stakes (1500m) at Ascot after narrowly getting beaten at his second start back from a spell last month.

Three Secrets finished sixth in last year’s WA Guineas (1600m) and resumed with a fourth to Get The Vibe before going down to In Love With Paris by a short head on March 24.

Stable jockey Shaun McGruddy will ride the Three Secrets, who will carry 56kg from barrier nine.

“He’s been good since coming back and is in good condition,” Wolfe said.

“We couldn’t be happier with him apart from the gate but he’ll be hard to beat in that field the way his work is going.

“He needed further the other day so the 1500m is ideal and hopefully he can do the job.”
