Albany cycling star Craig Wiggins has finished his 2019 cycling season in great style, taking out stage two of the Tour of Panzhihua in China last month.

Riders from 12 different countries — 120 in total across 20 teams — took part in the tour on November 23-24 as Wiggins hit the road with his St George Continental teammates.

The dual Albany sportsperson of the year winner won a gruelling 120km stage of the road race, through hilly terrain.

Wiggins finished strongly on the stage to claim victory, reaching a maximum speed of 71km/h during the race.

He also finished third in the points classification on the tour to end his season on a high note.

“A huge thanks to the coach Stuart Passmore for the continued support throughout the year,” Wiggins said.

“It was a very mentally straining year, so to have people backing me really eases the pressure.

“This was our last race of 2019 and a good way to cap off a great year with St George Continental.

“I have re-signed with them for next year so I’m really keen to see what that brings.”

Re-signing with St George Continental is a major boost for Wiggins’ cycling career.
