Dynamic duo Indianna Weeden and Alyssa Ward formed a deadly offensive combination as they produced one of best second halves of the season to help Flames brush aside Phoenix in Tuesday night’s elimination first semifinal.

Both teams won only two games in the regular season but played finals with competition rules preventing Raiders from taking part.

Neither side really had control in a seesawing opening half but Flames, buoyed by a win over the same opponent a week earlier, seemed to launch into another gear following the break.

Weeden and Ward were simply brilliant for Flames, knocking down regular baskets in a clutch finals performance that lifted their side to a comfortable 15-point win at full-time.

Despite sitting at the foot of the table for the majority of the season, Flames now find themselves in a preliminary final.

It was a long-range shooting display from Weeden, who nailed eight three-pointers as Phoenix refused to close her out and the result was a game-high 26 points from Flames’ most important player.

Ward knocked down 14 points, all of which were field goals, and was just as valuable at either end while Brittany Tomlinson was only other player to score for the winners with nine.

Flames came from behind at the break to run out winners 49-34, ending Phoenix’s season.

Phoenix centre Cassandra Cheetham worked tirelessly in the keyway for her 18 points but she lacked support.
