Warning to give Albany fish kill areas at Goode Beach, Frenchman Bay a wide berth

Fisheries officers are investigating a fish kill at Goode Beach and Frenchman Bay Beach.

Up to 100 fish were found floating or washed up on the beach on Tuesday, including white-barred boxfish, globefish and toadfish.

More dead fish were seen in the area on Wednesday.

The fish are thought to be poisonous to dogs so pet owners are advised to take care in the area.

The Department of Health has advised people not to swim or fish in areas of water with large numbers of dead fish.

Handling, collecting or using dead fish for bait or consumption is also a health risk.

Anyone that has handled dead or dying fish and experiences inflammation on their hands around any cuts or abrasions should see a doctor.
