WA women finish winless
The WA Country XI women’s team have failed to win a game at the Australian Country Cricket Championships held in Toowoomba after a narrow eight-run loss to Victoria in their fifth and sixth play-off game on Friday.
After not winning any of their first seven games, WA played off against Victoria to try to restore some pride and prevent a winless carnival.
Victoria batted first, making 8-119 off their 20 overs with Mt Barker product Georgia Middleton taking 2-19 off her three overs.
WA were in early trouble at 3-30 before Royals junior Hannah Felton came in at No.4 and top-scored with 29.
When Felton was removed her side were 6-103 still needing 17 runs for victory.
WA could only manage 8-111 off their allocated overs with Middleton adding eight runs.
On Thursday WA lost to New South Wales by 29 runs after posting 101 batting first.
Middleton made 23 off 22 with two fours and one six before NSW posted 7-130 in reply.
Middleton took five wickets from eight matches while averaging 8.1 with the bat.
Felton made 63 runs at an average of 7.9 and took one wicket, bowling in four matches.
