Two-game losing streak comes to an end for Sonics Blue against fellow club side Sonics in women’s A-grade

Sonics Blue snapped a two-game losing streak in the Albany Basketball Association women’s A-grade competition on Tuesday night, emerging comfortable 17-point winners over fellow club side Sonics. After winning their first two games, Sonics Blue went down in their next two contests but rebounded to their best form in round five to notch their third win of the season. The 42-25 victory was an important victory giving their percentage a boost to push them back to third on a congested ladder. Sonics Blue quickly established a six-point advantage in the opening minutes of the contest before Sonics fought back with six of the next eight points and a Charlotte Boreham three reduced the deficit to one possession midway through the first term. But that would be as close as Sonics would get to Sonics Blue, who netted 11 of the last 14 points in the half to open up a 10-point buffer at the main break. The second half started with a flurry of baskets from Sonics Blue as they quickly extended their advantage to 20 points with 15 minutes left in the contest. Sonics netted the next five points and despite finishing the contest with nine of the last 15 points they suffered their fourth loss of the season. Telikah Collins netted seven points in the first half to help their side open up a game-winning margin before finishing with nine for the game while Casey Griffiths led all scorers with 10. Aleesha Narkle dropped nine points in the loss for Sonics. Railways secured their first victory since joining the A-grade competition, finishing five-point winners over Raiders under-18s. Tayah Dallimore hit nine points in the 36-31 victory and Sophie Turner added seven while Brodie Dixon hit two threes on her way to 10 points for Raiders who fell to their fourth loss. Griffins jumped into the top four after securing their second straight victory with a 34-25 win over Bethel Breakers who have now lost consecutive games. Danielle Carne was important in the victory with 12 points while Rhiannon Williams-Jolley and Summer Stirling were strong supports with seven each. Dixon hit two long-range shots for Bethel Breakers and finished with 10 points. Infernos remain undefeated and moved four points clear on top on the back of a nine-point win over Barking Owls. The 39-30 win was Infernos’ fifth straight win and they were well led by Tay Weeden (10 points) and Charlotte Edwards (nine). Lily Wilsher-Saa was gallant in defeat with 14 points.
