Traffic delay on Kalgan bridge after two cars collide in serious crash leaving two men hospitalised in Albany

Two men have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after they were involved in a serious crash on Nanarup Road in Kalgan on Tuesday afternoon. The crash north-east of Albany blocked traffic heading across the Kalgan bridge as emergency services dealt with the incident. Police say at about 3.45pm they received a report that two vehicles, both travelling in a westerly direction, had collided on Nanarup Road. A Nissan X-Trail and a Mazda BT-50 were involved in the crash with the Nissan sustaining heavy front end damage. It is understood the Mazda was hit from behind and it came to rest halfway down an embankment, near the waterfront at the intersection of Affleck Road. St John WA and Department of Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene. An 80-year-old man and a 70-year-old man were both taken to Albany Health Campus with non-life-threatening injuries under normal road conditions. It is not known what vehicle either man was travelling in. A DFES spokesman said one crew had been sent to the crash to assist with scene management. There was a trail of debris and fluid across the road and visible tyre marks in the aftermath but it appears none of the people involved were seriously hurt. Police say inquiries are ongoing.
