Aspiring female footballers in the Great Southern were given terrific access to the Claremont Women’s Football Club in a trip to the region on the weekend.

Becoming a regular part of their calendar, the Claremont side were in Albany to help host the Great Southern Youth Girls Festival of Football on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Claremont side, containing a number of Great Southern players, faced some local representatives in a practice match at Centennial Stadium.

WAFC Great Southern regional manager Matt Bishop said the clinic was well received.

“This is certainly part of Claremont’s pre-season,” he said.

“They get a lot out of it, plenty of team bonding and there are a number of girls from this area, actually.

“There were a number of stations, the Claremont ladies ran through basic skills along with some small sided games and the coaches were fantastic.

“This really launches the season for the (local) girls, who are getting prepared for round 1.”

Bishop said plans were to expand the visit next year, along with the possibility of an exhibition match against a local Great Southern representative team.
