Three people facing serious drugs charges after police operation uncovers more than 60 cannabis plants

Three people are facing serious drugs charges after a month-long police operation led to the seizure of nearly 1kg of cannabis during a car stop and more than 60 plants at a property in Denmark last month. Officers from Denmark, Albany and Mt Barker raided a rural property in Denmark on April 8, allegedly finding an extensive cannabis crop. While executing a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act, police say they found more than 60 cannabis plants and arrested two men. Police say the plants were spread out across the property and ranged in size, with some harvested and others not. The raid lasted several hours as police gathered evidence and seized the plants. As a result, a 66-year-old Denmark man was arrested and charged with cultivating a prohibited plant with intent to sell or supply. He has already made a brief court appearance and was released on bail to reappear in Albany Magistrates Court on June 2. A 62-year-old Denmark man, who lives at the property, was summoned for minor drug charges. The raid came after a vehicle stop in Denmark seven days earlier. On April 1, Denmark police stopped a 2004 Holden Vectra and conducted a search of the car, finding more than 700g of cannabis. The two occupants of the car were arrested at the scene, with the male driver charged and his female passenger later released. The 24-year-old Perth driver was charged with possessing cannabis with intent to sell or supply. He has also made a brief court appearance and was released on bail to reappear in Albany Magistrates Court on June 9. Further inquiries into the female passenger, a 25-year-old from Perth, resulted in her being charged on April 28 with one count of possessing cannabis with intent to sell or supply. She is scheduled to make her first appearance on the charge in Albany Magistrates Court on May 19. Denmark acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Chris Macaulay said a “significant” amount of drugs had been seized in the operation. “This is a significant seizure for Denmark,” Sgt Macaulay said. “There were about 16 officers involved in executing the search warrant on the day. “These charges come as a result of good police work and vigilance from the Denmark community. “It was a big effort and involved a large amount of police resources. “We will continue to target the drug supply within the Denmark community.”
