Talon Delacey and Nathan Crudeli star in North Albany’s commanding first win for 2020 Great Southern Football League season under new coach Leigh Hislop

New North Albany senior coach Leigh Hislop was pleased with his side’s four-quarter effort after running out emphatic 154-point winners over Albany at Centennial Stadium on Sunday. The Kangas were in control from the outset, kicking four goals or more in each quarter to record their first win of the 2020 Great Southern Football League season, led by a Talon Delacey and Nathan Crudeli masterclass. Up against a young Sharks outfit, the Kangas broke the game open in the first term with swift and quick ball movement helping them take a 45-point lead into quarter-time as Crudeli ran rampant with 15 touches. Delacey booted two of the Kangas’ four goals in the second term as they opened up a 74-point advantage by half-time. Taj Williams booted two of his five majors in the third term as the margin reached triple figures and the Kangas coasted to a commanding victory, 23.18 (156) to 0.2 (2). Delacey kicked three goals and was a driving force in the midfield while Crudeli finished with 38 possessions in a outstanding performance around the stoppages. Williams finished with five goals against the side he played for last year, returning veteran Graham Ross booted four goals and Luke Cameron was also very solid. Hislop said he was pleased with his side’s effort after they started slowly in round one. “I asked the boys to play a four-quarter effort and they did that so I’m happy,” he said. “I think our midfield got on top early along with a good forward structure. “At half-time and three-quarter-time we reset the score and just wanted to keep going. “They (Sharks) played better than the score suggests.” Defenders Jake Louthean and Max Baker battled hard all day along with ruckman Stewart Davies and Fraser Eaton while youngster Jackson Cosh was a big positive going to Crudeli in the second half and keeping him to 12 touches. After finishing the match without a goal, Sharks coach Jamie Ramm said it was a tough day for his young side.
