Swans in Southern Districts Junior Football Association under-14s grand final after successive finals wins

After successive victories in the Southern Districts Junior Football Association under-14s first semifinal and preliminary final last weekend, Swans progressed to the grand final this Saturday and will take on Lions.

Swans just snuck into fourth spot but won their way through to this weekend’s decider after notching hard-fought wins over Mt Barker and Eagles respectively.

Geoffrey Wynne booted four goals to help Swans record their first victory on Saturday in the eight-point win over the Bulls before adding five on Sunday in their preliminary final win over Eagles.

Swans booted four unanswered goals in the first quarter before their margin was reduced to 16 points at the main change as the Bulls responded, kicking three goals to two in the second term.

Both sides kicked two goals in the third term as the margin remained the same.

The Bulls kicked the only goal of the last term but it was not enough to prevent the Swans to record an 8.3 (51) to 6.7 (43) result, Nate Cronin kicking two goals for the Bulls.

On Sunday, six second-half goals from Swans helped them record a memorable come-from-behind win to book their place in the decider.

Eagles booted five first-half goals to lead by 22 points at half-time before the Swans responded, keeping their opponents goalless while adding six of their own to record a 13-point win.

The Swans ran out 7.10 (52) to 5.9 (39) winners to set up a grand final with the Lions. Lions won straight through to the decider after defeating Eagles by nine points on Saturday.

In the under-12s competition, Denmark ran out emphatic 37-point winners over Power after booting three goals in both halves.

Saints won their first semifinal over Swans by 11 points before going on to book their place in the grand final on Sunday, defeating Power by three points in the preliminary final.

The under-12s grand final will be played at Tigerland on Saturday at 9am, followed by the under-14s decider at 10.30am.
