Albany Little Athletics Club will have a strong representation at the State Track and Field Championships which begin tomorrow at the WA Athletics Stadium in Perth.

Albany had 33 competitors attend the country championships, with the gold and silver medallists receiving invitations to the State event while others could nominate using their season’s personal bests.

Seventeen children from the Albany club will take part in a range of track and field events over three days.

The under-13 category will have the best representation with Jacinta Cooper, Ben Campbell, Bank Corser, Finlay Robertson and Riley Robertson set to compete.

Will Berry, Jindy Boyle and Edmund Toomey will participate in the under-9 age group while Mitchell Eley-Woodhouse and Lillian Molenda will carry the hopes of Albany on their shoulders in the under-10 events.

Georgia Whitelaw, Caleb Benson Mason Watkins will all line up in the under-11 division while Zoe Bascombe, Rory Wolfe, Stanley Cooper and Demi Burns are entered in the under-12 category.

Local coach and committee member Kym Quatermaine said this was a great opportunity for the kids.

“It will be a challenging but great adventure for our country athletes competing on the big stage, on the fast synthetic track with crowds of people humming track side,” she said.

“We really want our kids to enjoy the experience, give it all they have got and hope that they return to Albany all the better for the experience.”

The Albany kids have been receiving coaching from running coaches Basil Worner, Craig Sheil and John Toomey along with throwing coach Allen Smith in the lead-up to the event.
