LGSHA 2023: Spencer Park Dark notch memorable 1-0 grand final over Mt Barker in women’s B-grade competition

Spencer Park Dark stormed to a memorable 1-0 win against Mt Barker in the Lower Great Southern Hockey Association women’s B-grade grand final on Saturday. Tahlia Scott scored a first-term goal for Park and despite a mountain of pressure from Mt Barker in the remaining three quarters, they held firm for an upset win. Mt Barker, who finished atop the B-grade standings in 2023, had plenty of short corners as the game neared its conclusion but it was not enough as Park players rushed the field in joy after the final whistle. Park Goalkeeper Chrissy Scuza-Grant was named the best afield in the grand final. Meanwhile, North Albany claimed a convincing 3-0 win in the LGSHA men’s B-grade competition after goals to Meikhi Humphries, Sorren Humphries and Troy Osborne. In the year 5/6 division, Griffins’ Alex Wright and Ayrton Sedunary netted a brace each along with Zara Hancock (one goal) in their 5-0 triumph over Spencer Park. In the 7/8/9 boys’ competition, Charlie Letter scored two goals in Vikings’ 4-2 win against Spencer Park. Dawid Spangenberg and Mitchell Pike also found the back of the net for the winners while Lincoln Pearce (two goals) was the only scorer for Park. Zoe Mills bagged two goals in Spencer Parks’ 4-0 victory over Griffins Blue with Evie Famlonga and Ari Scott also chipping in with a goal apiece. In the 10/11/12 girls competition, Griffins Red defeated Griffins Blue in their grand final. Griffins edged past Mt Barker with penalty flicks in the 10/11/12 boys grand final, sealing a third-straight premiership for the talented young side.
