Hockey player turned football convert Sophie McDonald has continued her rapid rise, named among the 45 players invited to the upcoming AFLW Draft Combine.

McDonald has attracted interest from AFLW clubs, earning a spot as one of four WA players on the list for October’s combine.

The talented defender produced a stunning national 18s championship for WA and now the Claremont product will get to showcase her skills in front of AFLW clubs from October 1-3 in Melbourne.

AFLW clubs name a shortlist of players they prefer to attend the national combine and each of the 45 players received at least one nomination by a club.

McDonald, who has trained with the West Coast Eagles female academy, said the news was still sinking in.

“I only just found out,” a shocked McDonald said.

“I was scrolling through my emails and opened it up.

“It’s a lot of surprise and shock at the moment but obviously an amazing opportunity if I do get drafted on the off chance.”
