Albany shooter David Sobik came from behind to take out the coveted overall two-gun title at the 43rd WA State Open Lever Action Rifle Championships in PerthJU ear-lier this month.

Albany Lever Action Rifle Club took 13 shooters to the two-day event and had a number of several JUsuccesses, with competitors entering from across the country.

The two-gun title is decided by combining the scores from the open classic event on June 3 and the open shoot on June 4.

Sobik was in sixth place after the first day of competition, but moved into contention for the title after taking out the 100m precision, timed fire and rapid fire events on the second day.

Leading by five points heading into the final event, Sobik held his nerve to claim the open event and, in turn, the two-gun title.

“It is fantastic to win it — it’s a pretty amazing feeling really,” he said. “I was 100 per cent committed to winning and I don’t think I have ever put as much effort into those last 10 shots.”

Albany’s Sue Knapp won the women’s division, while Rob Gill was the senior shooting champion.

ALARC’s strong overall performance ensured they were crowned teams champion.

Gill also placed third overall in the open event, with Kim Knapp (sixth), Janos Racz (eighth) and Joel Evans (ninth) all shooting well.

In the junior division, Daniel Peacock represented Albany and performed admirably.

Perth finished second in the teams event.
