Soapbox racers impress in Perth champs

Albany Advertiser

Albany trio Daisy Senior, Tayissa Condren and Ellie Senior produced impressive results, each reaching the top four finals at the 2017 Ross Burton Championships in Perth on Sunday.

The event was rescheduled because of rain late last month when it was originally supposed to run, but that didn’t stop the emerging Albany trio from shining when it finally got going.

Daisy and Ellie Senior both reached the top four finals in the senior championships, while Tayissa also made the top four finals in the junior category.

Tayissa finished third in the juniors, and in the seniors Daisy claimed third place and Ellie was fourth.

Adding to her strong finals result, Tayissa was the equal first-place winner of the annual association trophy, sharing it with Isaac Price, and the young Albany driver dedicated her win to the late Mark Giovannini, who inspired many of the current drivers.

Fellow Albany driver Blake Condren also had success at the championships, winning his grouping, and was placed 11th in the junior class overall.

The Albany Soapbox Club members did very well in the competitive day of racing, hosted by the Perth Soapbox Club.

Albany drivers will now turn their attention to the next two club meets this month before the RSL Championships on November 19 to round out the season.
