Slashing return from Mystery Moment part of winning Albany treble for Adam Durrant and Clint Johnston-Porter

Leading metro trainer Adam Durrant and top jockey Clint Johnston-Porter continued their terrific Great Southern season, scoring a winning treble in Albany on Friday. Durrant won three of the seven races at the Percy Spencer Racecourse meeting, while top Albany trainer Steve Wolfe won two of the other events. Mystery Moment produced a slashing first-up victory, coasting to a big win in the Graham Manley Autos Handicap (1232m). The three-year-old filly won a Pinjarra maiden last year and then contested the listed Burgess Queen Stakes at just her third start, finishing last and was spelled as a result. The daughter of Animal Kingdom had a soft 950m barrier trial before her resuming in Albany and Johnston-Porter settled her near-last in the field of 11. Mystery Moment was ninth on the home turn but produced a devastating turn of foot in the straight, running the final 600m sectional in under 36sec. as she went on to record a one-length win over Oxbridge. That win was the third leg of the Durrant and Johnston-Porter treble after the earlier victories of Zip Your Lips and Category Three. Category Three made a stylish debut in race two, as Johnston-Porter took the three-year-old Xtravagant filly back to the inside running rail and she finished powerfully to defeat Jalinda Bay by one length. She was well-supported into a $2 favourite in the 1100m maiden on the back of two strong recent trial wins. Zip Your Lips was transferred back to the Durrant stable after a stint with Rob Gulberti and made his return to racing after several trials. The five-year-old ($2) jumped from barrier one and settled just off the speed before Johnston-Porter angled him to the outside and he won by more than a length over Artie’s Comet. Durrant has now won 11 races in the Great Southern this season and Johnston-Porter moved into second in the jockeys standings with 13 wins. Wolfe tasted success on the program with maiden galloper Efreet and progressive type Cable Boy. Cable Boy ($8) won a thrilling finish to the ARC Life Members Handicap (1100m), as jockey Natasha Faithfull drove through the centre of Roy Rogers duo Prince Ragnar and Oristano to win by a nose on the line. Efreet has been a frustrating horse to follow but at his 12th start broke his maiden status after getting home strongly for hoop Chris Nicoll over 1500m. Morgs Freeman won the opening event on the program comfortably for trainer Gerry Hughes and rider Jade McNaught and Albany trainer Jonathon Jachmann had success in the final race with $20 outsider Rock Of Kaha.
