Siblings ready to represent WA
It will be a family affair at the 2017 Australian Mountain Bike Championship in Queensland next month, with Albany siblings Jessica and Lachlan Waldron representing WA.
After making the extended State squad last year, the pair have trained in Perth regularly and have now been selected for the WA team that will travel across to Canungra between March 16 and 19.
Jessica will compete in the under-15 cross-country division while Lachlan is entered in the under-17 cross-country division.
Both will also take part in a short course race that includes a series of jumps and obstacles.
Since December the siblings have been training with local rider Stuart Passmore and some weeks they’ve clocked up more than 300km.
The pair’s father, Brad Waldron, said their new training schedule was more focused on the mountain biking discipline.
“There’s been a lot of repetitions up rocky hills, practising their starts and endurance stuff too,” he said
“They did a couple of weeks of that really hard stuff and it’s been more about the intensity stuff as they get closer to competition.”
Waldron said the siblings would gain a lot from the experience.
“It’s the full Australian title so all the elite professional riders will also be racing for titles so they get exposed to seeing all that too.” he said
Jessica said she is excited for the event and is hoping to place in the top 10 within her age category while Lachlan has his sights set on making the top 20.
