The Shire of Denmark has opened its public comment period for the proposed local average rate rise of 5.5 per cent, below the annual consumer price indexing of 5.8 percent.

The increase in rates reflects the national inflation trend, currently sitting at 7.0 percent, with the cost of products and services continuing to rise.

With the proposed 5.5 per cent increase, minimum rate payments will range from $1340 to $2989, varying on the property type, its use and value.

The minimum rate for properties that fall within the ‘gross rental value’ will range from $1340 to $1643, while properties that fall within the ‘unimproved value’ category will range $1573 to $2989.

The proposed rate increase can be found on the Shire of Denmark website.

Formal response to the proposed rate increase can be submitted in writing to PO Box 183 Denmark or to enquiries@denmark.wa.gov.au.

The public comment period closes midday on July 13.
