Albany continued their impressive start to the new Great Southern Women’s Football League season, downing North Albany on home turf on Friday night.

After their round-one win last week, the Sharks kicked the first two goals of the contest at Centennial Stadium and didn’t look back.

Hayley Williamson and Stephanie Grant kicked truly before three-quarter-time as the Sharks led an inaccurate Kangas by nine points.

The Kangas did their best to erase the deficit and a fourth-quarter goal from Antoinette Jackson got the visitors within a kick.

Sian Lucas and Marlee Ashton were important contributors for the Sharks while Samantha Waltho and Jessikah Woods were also among the best players as the home side won, 2.5 (17) to 1.8 (14).

Kylee Ferrell won plenty of the ball for the Kangas and was well supported by Cleo Drygan and Laura Archer.

In the later game at Centennial Stadium, a goal from Lily Wilsher-Saa proved the difference between arch rivals Railways and Royals.

The Tigers notched a thrilling five-point win to join the Sharks as the only other unbeaten team.

Wilsher-Saa’s sole goal came in the second term as the Tigers kept the Lions at bay after half-time despite the home side having plenty of opportunities in their front half.

Mereana Wynne, Courtney Bateman and Ksharna Coyne were among the Tigers’ best in the low-scoring 1.1 (7) to 0.2 (2) result.

Nardia Humphries, Georgina Lilford and Katelyn Russ were named in the Lions’ best players.

Denmark-Walpole secured their first win of the 2021 campaign, holding off Mt Barker in an epic at Sounness Park.

Ebony Thompson and Ashleigh Needs kicked the two majors for the Magpies who trailed by three points at half-time.

Megan Ross, Erika Tharratt and Ashley Juers powered the home side to a 2.3 (15) to 1.5 (11) triumph.

The Bulls were best served by Tahlia McRoberts, Sheridan Kowald and Saige Askevold.

In round three tomorrow night the Sharks host the Lions at 5.45pm, the Kangas and Magpies face off on the eastern precinct oval at 6.15pm and the 7.15pm match in the Stadium is between the Tigers and Bulls.
