Second set of plans for marina-front tavern set for City of Albany assessment, public comment period open

The marina waterfront may see a new tavern and restaurant if plans submitted to the City of Albany are approved. An application for planning approval for a “tavern and restaurant” to be built on lot 4 Princess Royal Drive has been submitted to the City by Aquavista Holdings and is open to scrutiny from the public for two more weeks. The lot, situated on a portion of vacant land between Hilton Garden Inn and the Boat Shed, would be home to a building that would be split into two tenancies, according to the submitted documents. Tenancy A would have a footprint of about 774sqm, be capable of accommodating 300 patrons and employ a combination of 35 full-time and casual staff members while operating seven days a week. Tenancy B would be about half the size at 378sqm and be capable of accommodating 150 patrons with 25 staff members while also being open every day of the week. Plans drawn up by H&H Architects, submitted as part of the application, show each tenancy would have its own kitchen and toilet facilities. Tenancy A would also have a courtyard in the north-east corner. In the application written on behalf of Aquavista, John Boccamazzo said both tenants would apply for tavern licences with the intention of serving food and alcohol. He also indicated customers would enter both establishments from entries on the south-west side of the building facing the waterfront. “The grass area north of the development will provide future commercial development of two or three-storey buildings in height with a minimum of 18 extra parking bays on the ground floor,” he said. Aquavista also previously sought planning approval to develop a “restaurant/tavern facility” on the neighbouring lot 5. That application faced an 18-day public comment period from late November into the middle of December and was subsequently approved by the City under delegated authority. The plans for lot 4 are available on the City website and the public comment period closes on August 25.
