A visit to the hospital can be a daunting experience for children.

That is why the Porridge Bikers have added colour to the paediatric ward at Albany Health Campus.

The group of Albany prison officers have been fundraising throughout the year for a bright mural at the ward.

Now installed, the vibrant under-the-sea piece is already adding some life to hospital trips for families.

One of the major fundraisers was a ride from Albany Regional Prison to Jerramungup and then Lake Grace covering 370km over two days.

Member John Roukins said they were originally going to get an artist to paint cartoons, before plans changed due to COVID-19.

“We got a quote to do this mural and it was $5000 so we fundraised to get it,” he said.
