Rubber and fumes return to the bitumen at Albany City Kart Club with strong competitor numbers
After more than three months of competition hibernation the Albany City Kart Club bitumen heated back up, drivers lapping up ideal conditions for the first club meeting post-COVID-19 restrictions on Sunday.
An impressive total of 40 drivers dusted off their karts and got back to burning rubber.
The day belonged to Scott Else as he managed to take out both the tag 125 restricted medium and Yamaha classes.
Else had a perfect day in the tag 125 restricted medium, winning all five races to finish on 1445 points while Bob Harrison (1169 points) and Alan Griffiths (997) rounded out the podium.
The Yamaha division attracted a great field of 15 drivers and produced great racing throughout as Else claimed overall honours with 1158 points.
He only managed to win his final race in the class but two second placings and a fourth was enough to defeat Chad Crofts (894)and Paul Collins (880).
Grady Crofts proved he is a driver on the rise in the cadet 9 division, clean sweeping his five events.
Crofts finished undefeated on 1445 points to defeat brother Hamish Crofts (1174) while Blake Pianto (1137) rounded out the podium.
A victory in the last race helped the consistent Ben Norder edge out young gun Cody Colmer by 54 points in the cadet 12 category.
Colmer won four out of the five races but was unable to finish the final race.
Norder finished on top in the overall points on 1210 ahead of Colmer (1156) and Mitchell Turner (1115).
In the KA4 junior light class three race victories from Harrison Beres guided him to overall success, downing Jayden Turner by 41 points.
ACKC president Howard Heerey said it was great to see everyone back out on the track racing.
“It was a good meeting, it was a perfect day to return on and everything ran smoothly,” he said.
“I’m amazed at how well the day went.
“Everyone enjoyed being back on the track and there was plenty of great racing on show.”
