Albany galloper Acefire ran a strong fifth in the $200,000 Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m) at Pinjarra Park on Sunday for trainer Roy Rogers.

The weekend’s prime metropolitan meeting was pushed back to Sunday due to extreme heat on Saturday and was run in cooler and blustery conditions the following day.

Rogers had a two-pronged attack in the three-year-old feature race, with Acefire and Heavenly Waters.

Acefire finished off strongly to run the third-fastest 600m sectional time to dead-heat with hot $1.40 favourite Spin The Knife for fifth.

Jockey Brad Rawiller was trapped deep throughout the race in a midfield position on Acefire and angled to the middle of the track and loomed up the 150m mark but faded to finish 2.3 lengths behind the winner Pixie Chix.

Heavenly Waters also settled deep in running in the front half of the field and had reached the lead at the 150m mark but was bumped and dropped out to run ninth in the field of 12 for Steven Parnham.

The David Harrison-trained Pixie Chix produced a stellar turn of foot to win by half a length.

Rogers also had Ciao Luna entered in the $250,000 Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m) but she brushed the running rail, becoming unbalanced and lost ground near the 600m before finishing last, beaten more than 27 lengths behind the winner Sheeza Belter.

Sheeza Belter was bred at Denmark’s Mt Hallowell Stud and trained by Luke Fernie.

The Steve Wolfe-trained The Spruiker finished second in $100,000 Pinjarra Park Mile (1600m) to Utgard Loki, while Halatorion ran fourth for Rogers earlier on the program.
