Albany’s historic town hall is back in action after being closed for more than a year for a roof-to-floor transformation.

The 132-year-old heritage-listed landmark has undergone a multi-million dollar revamp including conservation works, structural repairs and construction of a new modern gallery space.

The ‘6330 Kinjarling Place of Plenty’ exhibition is now open on the ground-floor of the hall, including beautiful pieces showcasing Albany’s history from the City of Albany Art Collection.

The upper-level will be open from 4pm today for the Artisan and Designer Gift Fair, which is set to run until Sunday throughout the City’s Christmas festival.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said it was exciting to open the hall ahead of the holiday season.

"The last time this incredible building was renovated was back in 1983 and now it has been restored back to its former glory of 1888 heightening its connection with Albany's heritage, culture and history," he said.

“Being able to provide a soft launch ahead of the major opening at Easter time means that we can start to make use of this icon right before the holiday season, provide the community with an exciting unveiling and gather important feedback on the use of the venue.”

The Albany Town Hall will be officially opened in April 2021 to celebrate the Great Southern Art Award.
