Radio Sailing champs breeze along to annual Albany Hobby Expo
The Albany Radio Sailing Club will join hobby enthusiasts from across the region this weekend at the annual Albany Hobby Expo.
Hosted by the Albany Model Railway Club at the the Exhibition Hall on Cockburn Road, the event will have a range of hobbies to pique everyone’s interests including model aircraft, model railways, quilting, photography and crafts.
ARSC members will be on hand at the hobby expo to share their insights and hopefully inspire some new members.
Last weekend, members Geoff Oliver and Andrew Grist were crowned radio sailing State champions at the 2021 DF65 and DF95 State Championships at Austin Lakes with the club well represented by experienced and novice sailors.
ARSC vice commodore Geoff Cass said the club boasted nearly 40 members who meet up to three times a week to race yachts and hone their skills.
“They are a really good group of guys, you are out in the open, you are not stuffed in a room and it is just a pleasant way to spend a morning or an afternoon,” he said.
“It can be competitive if you want it to be or can be as social as you want to be.
“You are there to have a good time with other sailors to learn and to make friends and enjoy yourself.”
The club will hold an open day at the pond at the corner of North Road and Sanford Road from 2pm on October 10, with anyone who is curious about sailing invited to come down and observe the boats on the water.
The Albany Hobby Expo will run from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 9am to 3pm on Sunday.
