Premier lauds regional WA’s ‘best precinct’
Albany is home to “the best sporting precinct anywhere in regional WA, perhaps in WA”, Premier Mark McGowan says.
Mr McGowan made the comments about the town’s $34 million Centennial Park Sporting Precinct as he officially opened the eastern pavilion last week — the final major project in a five-year development of the area.
Mr McGowan opened the mixed-use kiosk on August 22, flanked by Albany MP Peter Watson and Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington.
“This is the conclusion, the last major part of the project to upgrade Centennial Park,” he said.
“The fact you have (different) sports in one precinct, with facilities that are multi-use, change rooms, pavilions, bars, lighting, is a credit to you.
“It’s not always easy to combine.” The pavilion will most-ly be used for junior sport.
Its opening marked the conclusion of major developments in the Centennial Park precinct, which has become a central point for Great Southern sport, hosting football, cricket, soccer, touch rugby, hockey and athletics.
