Investigation into Lockyer rollover after man left scene then allegedly returned positive alcohol reading

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a rollover in Lockyer last week which left a car resting on its side but no driver in sight. About 5.15pm on Thursday, a Nissan Pulsar crashed into a tree on Lambert Street after failing to negotiate a bend. Emergency services attended, but they did not find a driver at the scene of the crash. However a short time later, a 22-year-old man — who is believed to have been the driver of the car — was apprehended by police at a property in McKail. The man allegedly returned a positive preliminary breath test for alcohol. He was taken to Albany Health Campus with non-life threatening injuries under police guard. There was a half-empty bottle of beer lying on the road near the car among other items in the aftermath of the crash. The car sustained heavy front-end damage and the windscreen was smashed. Skid marks were visible on the road leading to the tree, which also sustained damage in the crash. Acting Sen. Sgt Nathan Parkey said police investigations were continuing. “We apprehended who we believed to be the driver at another address in McKail,” Acting Sen. Sgt Parkey said. “He returned a positive preliminary breath test and was taken for medical treatment. “We are waiting for the return of blood samples and are making further investigations around the circumstances of the crash.” A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said the man sustained abrasions from the crash.
