Police charge woman with arson after house fire

Albany detectives have charged a woman with arson following a house fire which gutted a home in McKail on Sunday night.

Detectives on Tuesday charged the woman with one count of criminal damage by fire.

Police allege at around 9.50pm on Sunday the woman set fire to items within the house on Gregory Drive.

The fire spread and engulfed the home causing significant structural damage estimated at $300,000.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said a male occupant was in the home at the time.

“The male occupant was given oxygen at the scene from smoke inhalation and then taken to

Albany Health Campus escorted by police,” he said.

The woman is set to appear in Albany Magistrates Court today.
