PlayCricket Roadshow and Perth Scorchers mascot Blaze the dragon to visit the Great Southern

The Perth Scorchers bus and mascot Blaze the dragon will be in Albany, Mt Barker and Denmark next week as part of the Perth Scorchers PlayCricket Roadshow at the North Road cricket pavilion.

The roadshow aims to promote entry-level cricket to parents of five to 10-year-olds while promoting local junior competition.

WACA Great Southern cricket manager Darcy Middleton said the event provided an opportunity for children to socialise while learning new things.

“Cricket Blast goes for just over an hour and is fun, fast pace and a great way for kids to make friends and develop their fundamental movement skills,” Middleton said.

“We’re very lucky to have Blaze come down to the region and help us promote cricket in Albany as well as visit schools in Denmark and Mt Barker.

“Junior cricket doesn’t go for half a day and now with its new simplified formatting, goes for roughly two hours and everyone gets an equal bat and bowl. Cricket Blast is the perfect way to try the new formatting, spend time outdoors and promote physical activity to your child.”

The roadshow starts at 3.30pm on Thursday, September 15. The event is free and a sausage sizzle will be provided for participants.

The roadshow will also a stop at the Broomehill Recreation Complex in Broomehill from noon on Saturday, September 17.
