Perth International Jazz Festival heads to Mt Barker for Taste Great Southern
Some of WA’s finest jazz musicians will be in Mt Barker this weekend for an afternoon of fine wine and music.
Perth International Jazz Festival’s On Tour series will bring Jazz at the Cellar to Mt Barker on Saturday, May 7 as part of Taste Great Southern.
Hosted by Plantagenet Wines, the event will mix world-class jazz with quality wine and food.
Jazz vocalist Lucy Iffla will entertain with her folk, jazz and funk classics alongside the other three musicians of the Lucy Iffla Quartet — Ben Vanderwal on drums, Matthew Gudgeon on guitar and Alistair Peel on bass.
The Gemma Farrell Quinet will also take to the stage, giving audiences a sneak preview of their second album ‘The View From The Top’ ahead of its release on May 14.
Saxophonist Gemma Farrell leads the group, with Sam Hadlow on trombone, Dan Garner on guitar, Kate Pass on bass and Ryan Daunt on drums.
Brass Party will keep the good times rolling with their brassy take on classic dance tunes from the 1990s and 2000s.
Perth International Jazz Festival director Mace Francis said they could not wait to visit the Great Southern after the success of the ‘On Tour’ program in Busselton last year.
“The musicians are excited to share their music and each band brings a different aspect of the jazz genre to the stage,” he said.
“We hope to bring world-class jazz to the regions for many years to come – because what goes better together than good times, great jazz, and a glass of locally crafted wine?’’
Jazz at the Cellar Door will be held from 4.30pm on May 7.
