Parklands come from behind to finish with perfect record in Albany Junior Soccer Association under-12 division
The final league round of the Albany Junior Soccer Association was held last Saturday with all competitions finalising their end-of-season placings.
Parklands had already won the league title in the under-12s but finished the season with a 100 per cent record when they came from behind to beat Great Southern Griffins after Owen Pretorius scored early in the first half to give Parklands a fright.
Griffin Lawrence-Brown equalised midway through the first and Griffins were able to hold on to keep the score level at the break.
Kai Cross scored the the only and deciding goal of the second half to help Parklands claim a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Denmark Black kept the runners-up spot with a 5-2 win against the Albany Diggers as Jamie McKenna netted a hat-trick for Denmark.
Stirling Rangers and Caledonian played each other in the league for the final time before they face off against each other in this week’s cup final.
Rangers have been the dominant team in the under-13s but Caledonian have been getting closer with each game they have played against them.
Caledonian conceded two goals in each half as they lost 4-0 loss but will feel they will have a shot next week after some promising moments in the match.
Polonia Red had already won the under-14s league and the only position left to be decided was for second.
Denmark and Griffins had earned the right to fight it out for second and it was Denmark who got off to the best possible start with two goals inside the first 10 minutes.
Griffins pulled one back just before the break and then found an equaliser shortly afterwards.
That was as close as they came as Denmark scored three unanswered goals to take the match 5-2 and second spot in the league.
Both Stirling Rangers and Polonia had routine victories in their final league match of the under-15s before they face each other in the cup final, with Stirling Rangers beating Albany Bayswater 4-1 and Polonia defeating Albany Caledonian 8-0.
In the under-18s John Calvin recorded their best result of the season by beating league champions Albany Bayswater 5-1 with Malcolm van Burgel scoring a hat-trick for John Calvin.
