Does anybody else feel like this year is flying by?

Here we are, already in the last few weeks of September with Makuru/Winter tucked away neatly behind us for another year.

The prospect of lazing outdoors with a good book appeals once more as we find ourselves well into Djilba/First Spring.

The days feel that bit longer and warmer, though Djilba is a transitional season with sunlight-soaked days off set by softly lit sporadic moments of spring rain.

And, if I’m honest, days like these are my favourite and pose excellent conditions for reading, both in and out of doors.

At Paperbark Merchants, we have been busily receiving September new release titles just in time for the October school holidays.

Our shop is bursting at the seams with exciting new books that are sure to keep your kids and teens entertained during the break. Here are some titles we are excited about.

Her Radiant Curse by Elizabeth Lim (Teen – Fantasy/Drama)

A companion novel set in the world of the Six Crimson Cranes, this story explores the dark side of beauty and the deep bonds of sisterhood.

Think A Curse So Dark and Lonely meets The Hunger Games.

Mermedusa, An Eerie- on-Sea Mystery by Thomas Taylor (Middle reader 9+)

Book #5 in this wildly wacky yet charmingly kooky seaside adventure series, sees us reunite with the unbeatable Herbert Lemon and Violet Parma as they delve into Eerie-on-Sea’s deepest secret yet.

With mechanical mer-monkeys to visit and lost and founding to do; entertainment is guaranteed!

The 169 Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths (Young reader 7+)

The last instalment to this crazy, fun-filled treehouse series that has been a favourite with Aussie young readers for the past 13 years.

Follow the link at the events page of the Albany Public Library website to register and to find more info on all the school holiday fun to be had at our local library.

Our Dragon by Mem Fox (Children’s Picture book 4+)

A beautifully tender and funny new story about the ups and downs of living with a dragon by our Aussie darling of Children’s lit, Mem Fox.

Guinness World Records 2024 (Children’s Non-Fiction 8+)

Who doesn’t love the weird and wonderful statistics found in the Guinness World Records series. You are sure to find things you’ve long wondered about and things you could probably do without knowing. Hours of holiday fun.
