Albany Town Hall, Town Square and Alison Hartman Gardens will light up in pink and blue from March 15-19 as part of the Neurological Council of WA Brain Awareness Week.

The week will shine a light on the importance of brain health and vital brain research with a light display and resources on brain health on the Neurological Council of WA website.

Albany residents are encouraged to share their photographs of the light display using the hashtag #BrainAwarenessWeek or #BAW2023 to support the initiative.

Neurological Council CEO Etta Palumbo says the goal during Brain Awareness Week, and throughout the year, is to nourish your brain by eating right, moving more, and stimulating your mind.

“Brain Awareness Week is a good time to reflect on the fact that there is nothing more important than looking after your brain’s health and that living a brain-healthy lifestyle is key to thriving over your life course,” she said.

“Cognitive decline is not a natural state as we age, we simply need to use it or lose it, and by challenging our brains and leading a healthy-brain lifestyle, we can stay sharp, happy and healthy throughout our lives.

“Brain research is essential to meeting the tremendous challenges posed by more common disorders such as Parkinson’s, stroke, migraine, and epilepsy, for example.

“Research also helps us learn about hundreds of other rare disorders such as chronic fatigue, motor neurone disease, and encephalitis that affect the development and health of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and neuromuscular system.”

The Neurological Council of WA is an Albany-based organisation that provides a Statewide community neurological nursing and health care navigation services for people of all ages living with a neurological condition or symptoms.
