Orzel’s dominant display earns more All Stars honours

For the second year in a row, midfield star Matt Orzel has been selected in the Landmark Country All Stars after another outstanding representative display for the Great Southern Football League.

Captain of the GSFL senior side, Orzel led from the front in the midfield as his tenacious ball-winning ability shone through in division 3 of the Landmark Country Football Championships and was duly recognised by the All Star selectors.

The 33-year-old North Albany product was superb in the first game of the championships, racking up plenty of touches against Eastern Districts and he was used in the middle and forward kicking two goals in the big win over North Midlands.

Orzel then backed it up with a best-afield display against Regional Allstars on Saturday and kicked two goals in the win over Central Wheatbelt.

Eastern Districts gave Orzel plenty of close attention in the grand final, limiting his impact, but it was still another brilliant championships from the 157-game WAFL league player.

Meanwhile, Boxwood Hill’s Isaac Baum also won selection in the Landmark Country All Stars after being the Ongerup Football Association’s best player in division 2.

In the colts division held at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, three Great Southern Storm players were recognised with selection in the 2018 CBH Colts All Stars.

Zainel Bin Busu (Albany), Nelson Kent (Railways) and Kalin Lane (Denmark-Walpole) were the Storm trio that won representative jumpers after each starred in the championships.

Bin Busu was clearly Storm’s best player across the four games, dominating through the midfield, while Kent was lively up forward, kicking six goals that included an eye-catching display against eventual winners South West.

Lane showed signs of his potential with a telling performance in the ruck to be the competition’s premier ruckman.
