Ocean pool tops readers poll
An ocean pool has won at the ballot box as Albany’s preferred next attraction, securing nearly 70 per cent of votes in a poll of more than 2300 Albany Advertiser readers.
Advertiser readers responded to requests for proposals for the region’s next big thing once Bruce Munro’s Field of Light: Avenue of Honour on Mt Clarence is packed up this weekend.
The two-option online poll proposed an ocean pool like at Bondi Beach or Albany’s own Sculptures by the Sea exhibition. After three days, 68 per cent of readers — more than 1500 voters — favoured the ocean pool.
Sculptures by the Sea accrued 744 votes.
Polling did not end there, however, with readers responding enthusiastically to a call-out for their own ideas.
There was big support for mountain bike trails across the region, as well as a recreational fishing jetty and the Great Southern Motor Sport Park.
The suggestions , which were from the Albany Advertiser and not representative of any City, State or Federal Government proposals, came off the back of the new Amazing South Coast executive officer Peter Grigg calling for community suggestions.
