North Albany’s Lucas Ravenhill is all in on Claremont colts flag after being named in WAFL team of the year

North Albany product Lucas Ravenhill is solely focused on winning a colts premiership with Claremont despite sparking interest from AFL recruiters after a stellar WAFL season. The towering 199cm Ravenhill played every game in the Tigers colts side this season averaging 11.4 disposals a game and nearly four marks and was the club’s leading goal-kicker with 32 majors — the third highest in the competition. His terrific season in the front half earned him selection into the WAFL’s colts team of the season which features a glowing list of draft hopefuls, including teammate Hamish Davis. Ravenhill, Railways defender Clay Michael and Royals forward Rory Luscombe all played in their second semifinal victory over Subiaco and are likely to play in the colts decider against Swan Districts at Optus Stadium on Saturday. A humble Ravenhill confirmed he had been in contact with two AFL clubs but insisted he remained firmly focused on clinching a colts flag. “It’s pretty humbling to know that I’m up there and it’s nice to know that I’m up there in the top 23,” the 18-year-old said. “I’ve spoken to two clubs, but it sort of just depends on how I finish off this back end of the year. “I don’t normally look into individual accolades too much . . . it’s more of a team success thing that I look towards.” The 94kg utility believed the wide open spaces of Optus Stadium would suit his running power to work up and down the field. “I think my ability to get up the ground and bring the ball to ground and let the smalls do their thing at my feet is a strength,” he said. “I do love to work my opponent over so that’ll be a good factor coming into the weekend. “I enjoy taking big marks and bringing other people into the game, and not always getting on the end of them myself. “We do like to spread and move the ball around quickly, so (playing on Optus) will help us as a team.” Ravenhill was excited about the grand final and said playing alongside fellow Great Southern products was something he cherished. “It’s great to run out alongside (Michael and Luscombe), I love playing with those two boys,” he said. “It makes it more special that we’ve all come from Albany, and you’ve worked really hard to get to this stage. “So we will just enjoy the moment, have fun, and hopefully lift the cup with them at the end of the game. “We do really relish the chance to play in a grand final . . . but it’s important to just enjoy it and not overthink it too much.” The colts grand final is the second match of the day and bounces down at 12.10pm before the league grand final.
