National champions head stellar field in Albany Production 5000 and Wild West Shootout for late models

A brilliant field has been assembled for one of Albany Speedway Club’s biggest meetings of the season on Saturday night. Attwell Park Speedway will host major events for both production sedans and late model sedans in their first meeting of 2024. The Star Auto Parts Albany Production 5000 will be run for the sixth year, with $15,000 in prize money up for grabs. A huge field of 36 entries will do battle in the lucrative event, headlined by national champion Kyle Sayer and West Australian titleholder and defending champion Kye Blight. Former State champions Drew Ogle and Nuno Mendes along with visitors Josh Fraser, Rickie Nuccini, Mitch Killeen and Jake Blight form a part of the impressive line-up. Albany drivers Aydan Trewern, Calon Ball and Clinton Theyer are always super-competitive on their home patch and will be tough to beat. Kye Blight has won the last two editions of the Production 5000 while Sayer claimed victories in both 2018 and 2019. The winner of the final will take home the $5000 first prize cheque. The top 20 drivers on points will automatically qualify for the A-main while a B-main will be held for the remainder of the cars, with the top four from that event completing the 24-car field in the decider. The third round of the Wild West Shootout for late models will also be run on the night, attracting more than 20 nominations. Australian champion Brent Vosbergen, who scored victory in round two at the Perth Motorplex on Tuesday night, will head the strong field. Victorian champion Peter Nicola, Tasmanian driver Brad Smith and American Jeff Roth are also entered. Kye Blight will have double duties on the night, racing in the late models as well and he finished on the podium on Tuesday alongside Joe Chalmers. Jason, Jamie and Warren Oldfield will be leading contenders while Broome’s Kodee Brown will join the Wild West Shootout. Super sedans, junior sedans and street stocks will make up the support program for the big meeting. Gates open at 3pm and racing starts at 5pm on Saturday.
