Narrikup take out dual Twenty20 titles

Narrikup had double reason to celebrate after clinching two titles during the Albany Cricket Association Twenty20 finals day on Sunday.

Narrikup cruised to victory by 10 wickets in the B-grade grand final over surprise packets Mt Barker, while their C-grade side enjoyed an eight-wicket win over Denmark.

In the inaugural B-grade Twenty20 competition decider, Mt Barker could only manage 91 and were held together by a vital unbeaten 27 from Nathan Smith and 17 from Ian Pope in the middle order.

Craig Halligan snared an impressive 3-21 to put the Bulls on the back foot early.

The opening duo of Alec Haskins and Bryce McLean had little trouble knocking over the total, needing only 13 overs to cruise over the line by 10 wickets.

Haskins belted seven boun-daries and two sixes in his unbeaten 64, while McLean added 21.

Earlier in the day, the Bulls progressed to the final after an impressive run-chase in their final qualifying match, which proved a virtual elimination final against Royals. In the C-grade decider, a half-century from Jeremy Watson (50 not out) led Narrikup to victory over Denmark. The Magpies posted 121, with Mark Spencer anchoring the innings with 61.

In reply, Watson smashed three sixes on his way to 50, with fellow opener John Miell adding 26 in a 48-run opening stand before Narrikup passed the total with 28 balls to spare.
