The self-guided tour takes in the Walldogs murals painted as part of the Mountains and Murals festival as well as art galleries where visitors can view and even buy works.

Visitors will be able to collect a map from the visitor centre which will guide them around the Mt Barker townsite, giving them the opportunity to see the murals and galleries at their own pace and stop for coffee and food along the way.

The trail was launched as part of the Shire of Plantagenet’s March long weekend celebrations.

Mt Barker Tourism operations manager Kathryn MacNeil said the visitor centre had worked with the Mountains and Murals team to produce the self-guided tour.

“It’s an immersive art experience where people can see the murals and also enjoy and potentially purchase local art at two of our local community art galleries,” she said.

“The trail will take people from the visitor centre, through town and back to the visitor centre where they can enjoy the galleries in our space.”

Guide booklets are available at the Mt Barker Visitor Centre.
