Mt Barker Golf defeat reigning pennant holders Emu Point Red in women’s first division of LGSBL

With all divisions now off and running the Lower Great Southern Bowling League season is starting to take shape.

Reigning pennant holders in ladies first division Emu Point Red were beaten at home in an enthralling contest by Mt Barker Golf 3.5(36) to 0.5(34), with one rink being drawn.

These two sides are now equal first on the ladder and will again be battling each other throughout the whole season.

Albany Gold have continued their solid start with an away win against Cranbrook 3(44) to 1(39) leaving them only 1.5 points behind the leaders.

Denmark Aqua had a convincing victory over Mid Beach White 4(52) to 0(32), and Albany Green lost at home to Mid Beach Green 4(38) to 0(28), leaving them and Cranbrook still looking for their first wins for the season.

Women’s second division has seen Emu Point Purple take advantage of Mid beach Red having the bye with a solid home win over Mt Barker Golf 4(42) to 0(31) and therefore taking over as ladder leaders.

Emu Pt Blue also had an impressive home win over Denmark Orange 3(46) to 1(33).

Mid Beach Gold have begun the men’s first division season with two important early wins, the latest being an upset away triumph over reigning holders Emu Point Red 5(61) to 1(57).

This win sees them as the only undefeated side, as Red find themselves in a rare position at the foot of the ladder.

Denmark bounced back from their first-round loss to easily account for Mid Beach Green 6(76) to 0(39) at home as Mt Barker played their new green to perfection to record a stunning win over Albany Gold 5(65) to 1(53).

Mid Beach Black had a solid win over Albany Green at home 4(57) to 2(47).

In men’s second division Albany Brown have started the season strongly with two impressive wins including a 6(66) to 0(44) away victory over Mt Barker.

Emu Point Purple gave Albany Grey a belting at home winning 6(87) to 0(44) as Mt Barker Golf Red also had a big win over Cranbrook 6(66) to 0(43).

Walpole continued their good start with a closely fought win against Mt Barker Golf White 4(62) to 2(60).

Albany White remains the only undefeated team in men’s third division as they easily accounted for co-tenants Green Range 6(79) to 0(43).

Mt Barker Golf Blue won a thriller against Denmark by one shot 4(59) to 2(58) to maintain their position in the top four.

Mid Beach Lime rounded out the week with a resounding 6(86) to 0(46) triumph against Emu Point Black.
